LAMINA FILTERTRAP MAINTENANCE GUIDE
POST-INSTALLATION CHECK
-
Check that the Filtertrap is filled with clean water to the level of the outlet pipe. Check that the grease collection tray is positioned correctly inside the tank and is fitted with the blue filter tube.
-
Test the hoist by inserting in the ground socket, connect the hook and ensure the tray lifts up the centre of the Filtertrap.
MAINTENANCE PERIODS
The period of time between maintenance operations will vary considerably from site to site due to the different menus, cooking methods and choice of fats/oils. It is therefore important to examine the Filtertrap at regular intervals for the first few months to establish the correct frequency. If it is not possible to remove all the sediment and grease in one tray-full, then the period between emptying operations should be reduced.
MAINTENANCE OPERATION
Remove the lid from the Filtertrap, position the hoist in it’s socket.
Examine the filter tube, if the tidemark is more than 50mm above the outer liquid level, or if there is a difference between the liquid levels inside and outside the filter tube, then the filter needs cleaning or replacing. The filter should be replaced every six months as a matter of routine.
Engage the winch hook in the collection tray handle, ensure the winch rachet is on and wind the winch handle. As the tray gets close to the surface, lift the tray very slowly to give the water time to escape from the tray and leave just the grease and sediment. Lift the tray above ground level and leave to drain.
Position the waste container (a heavy-duty polythene bag draped inside a bowl, or empty cooking oil containers with a funnel) at the side of the Filtertrap. Swivel the tray so that the trapdoor in the side of the tray is over the waste container and lift the trapdoor to allow the collected grease etc. to drain into the waste container. Close the trapdoor to stop the flow whilst changing and sealing the waste containers.
If the Filtertrap has been left too long between emptying operations then the tray may need to be dipped below the surface for 10 minutes and then withdrawn with another collection of grease.
If the filter needs replacing, lower the tray onto a polythene sheet beside the Filtertrap, cut the plastic straps and remove the filter tube by sliding it off the top of the tray stack. Replace the filter tube, position the hooks over the top of the tray stack and tighten the straps very tightly at the top and bottom of the filter.
Lower the tray into the water by winding the winch handle in the opposite direction and allow the tray to sink slowly to the bottom of the Filtertrap, making sure it seats correctly and level.
Remove the hoist hook from the tray and replace the Filtertrap cover. You are recommended to store the hoist in a secure location.
Once per year it is recommended to have the Filtertrap emptied completely by suction tanker in order to remove any sediment which may have collected in the bottom of the unit underneath the tray.
Maintenance kits and replacement filters are available from PPD.
